Lattitude D610 (Cube Inc. Gift) Build-out
From Jay's Cafe' Wiki
OS Choice is Debian x86 for its simplicity, customization and recognition of the many varied hardware resources of the device.
- The only snag on installation is the lack of firmware for the wireless.
- I chose to install the OS using Ethernet for speed and stability.
- The system has a pcmcia slot, modem, ethernet, wifi, serial, vga, CD/DVD writer/Floppy and usb ports. All of which access to from within the E-UAE subsystem is desired.
Building
- The firmware for the Broadcom 43 Radio will be provided post install.
- The packages Debian desktop environment, LXDE, print server, ssh server and the standard system utilities were chosen on the initial install. They will provide us with some tools which will make the job of getting a stream-lined install of e-uae or fs-uae and the Amiga OS much more efficient.
Frozen during install
- The system just stops reading from the install CD. I can set up a PXE server -- which will be fun. I want to try some other OSs first. There is going to be a fight with the drivers, but maybe archive.org can help me with that. We'll see.
Windows 98 SE
- Win98SE was my favorite OS for a very long time. We'll see what it can do for this build.
